Dot abhors that remark.
she seems to be a kind, thoughtful & generally decent 30something young woman with kids, not a complete genius nor a complete fool, but someone that has moments of both (as we all do).
i'm not into her music but some like it so let them have it. there's lots of other music i'm not into so no need to single her out for particular critical attention.
her only flaw (i have many of my own, thankq) seems to me to be a soul-numbing addiction to celebrity (& all the media & social media trimmings that go with it) that consistently obliges her to parade her thoughts, feeling & opinions where they will attract maximum public attention & criticism.
constantly being exposed means you will be constantly got at, because a lot of people out there are twisted negative fuckers with big mouths (mister farage & ms hopkins). don't invite the shits around for tea.
certainly there are times when we have to do it (i'm very political & protest on occasion) but the art of good war is to know how & when to pick your battles to achieve best results at least cost. a wise combattant doesn't leave the war door open 24/7 over non-issues & gossip.
so she then gets locked into cycles within cycles of defending herself & trying to validate herself, then offering more vulnerabilites for others to attack when annoyed. when i think she would almost certainly be far happier just doing what every other non-celebrity-addicted 30something woman does for pleasure. eg. hang out with her family & do her own thing in private. those things enrich our lives.
twitter & facebook (& all that) is just a shit video game. virtual rows with nobodies & bots in a vacuum.
no one who never used twitter gets upset about a tweet they recieved.
no one who never used twitter gets into fights with complete strangers over not much that began with a tweet.
so if using it is getting you down, don't take the drug & you won't have to deal with the side effects. that is my policy.
i use it to follow interesting people & maybe send a tweet or two a week of support or to ask a question, but i keep it all anonymous & i don't really care. i haven't been on twitter for a week, facebook six months or more, because i don't really care. it's just a game.
& i come here because i enjoy the company of musicians, alcoholics, junkies, socialists, neo-nazis & the clinically insane. & not even in that order (you know who you are).
but Lily is ok.
