Your first ever "X" certificate cinema film?

What's Hot

I don't want to spoil the other thread @axisus started (Your first ever cinema film?), but it got me thinking...

What was the first X certificate film you saw at the cinema (or 18 if you're a youngling)?

Mine was John Carpenter's The Thing, in 1982.  It must have been one of the last films to get an X certificate, because the new rating system came in later that year.  And I was actually 18, I never dared to try to get into a film underage.

Still one of my all-time favourite films.

Kentucky Fried Movie. Double bill with something else I can't remember. It was truly dire. There's a ( NSFW)song in it I can still remember the chorus of oddly enough so that made an impression.

I can only think of "Blade" as an 18 rating that I saw at the cinema. 18-rated films were already on the wane by the time I hit 18 (in 1998), both as a result of increasing tolerance of violence in films and also film makers deliberately trying to avoid 18 certs due to smaller audiences.

Probably one of the Clint Eastwood westerns. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly was certainly an X certificate when it was first released. I think Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More were also18s but wouldn't swear to it. I suspect if they were released today they'd all be 12s or 12As.

Me too, The Devil Rides Out I think. They're showing a lot of the x rated horror stuff that I used to see in the cinema on the Horror Channel in the afternoons now.  =)

I remember my first AA rated film (yep, that was a thing). I'm now trying to work out if it was an earlier cinema going experience than the one I posted in the other Discussion, certainly a similar time. My father took me to see Rollerball (not the god awful remake) and I was definitely under 14 (the release date suggests I was about 12)but they allowed me in with him. Great film.

Escape from Alcatraz although that may have been AA which is now 15 I think. I was a child, I don't think they really gave a shit back then, they let us see all sorts of stuff. Could be why the cinema is now a carpark.

Wasn't AA "adult advisory"? More akin to a 12 I think.
