They do have a small electronics industry too - you may even have some of their valves...

At home, Valves and military spec PIO capacitors
I also do some work with a Russian Pharmaceutical firm. Most of their exports go to the far east and south America.
The optical coatings rubbed off with the usual ispropanol/lens tissue. Literally one swipe and they're useless. These were from a laser rangefinder, IIRC. Easily the worst laser optics I've encountered by a long shot.
At home, I have a few valves and germanium semiconductors. The Russians were pretty good at Ge semis.
I said maybe.....
Reminds me of when I was a PhD student, I did a lot of laser spectroscopy in a lab full of optical tables. One of my colleagues wanted to clean a beamsplitting cube, get some fingerprints off it. He thought he'd go one better than isopropanol and left the cube in a beaker of acetone... He came back to find he was the owner of two prisms in a weak solution of optical cement. We never let him hear the end of this.
