One of my  mates through my ex, Mark,  is dying in LA with very late stage lung cancer; Norman is his name, Liverpudlian.

I am very sad, but hell it's been 3 yrs of agony for Norman and he's is in pain.

Mark is very close and I also love the scouse git to bits.

Norman (Hughes) was a hairdresser to the stars, and was Bowie's hairdresser for many years.

Norman had the biggest Bowie memorabillia collection and record collection around- he has leant it to museums and others.

Anyway, Mark is with him now and Norman wants me to have most of it.

There are some amazing pieces- the best of which is Diamond Dogs Gatefold Edition (?) with the dog's genitals visible. I have no idea how much this is worth but I believe it's a very sought after collecter's item.

There's also a signed master of Station 2 Station and an original vinyl pressing of Live in LA Amphi 1972.

I'll think of Norman everytime I look at them- and I think that's why he's given them me.

Wow.

Not really; if he'd any consideration he'd have collected Floyd stuff.

(and I texted him that and got many LOL's back)

There is a Pink Floyd collection around the corner from my work that would make you cry.

I also know Norman had one of the Bowie all in one zipper suits  from the early 70's.

I believe donating this to the museum in Seattle. It wouldn't have fitted me anyway.

I don't think there's been any since. Twice that is probably conservative. Knowing how vinyl has gone up these days it's probably more like 4 or 5 times now.

I did PM you, but I suspect I was being conservative in the estimate. As a collector I watch vinyl prices quite a bit and the really rare pre-release/banned etc. stuff limited to under 100 or so is going up at about 4-5x every 10 years - so I'd say 4 or 5 times $3500 is about fair.

However, it does depend on if it's one of the uncensored pre-release 1974 gatefolds, that were issued as demo/dealer display copies and never sold. If it's one of them, then $$$

I will let you know. To be honest, Norman's deterioration has shocked me. His state of mind is somewhere where I have never been

I can imagine. Probably not very well, but a bit.

It sounds like there are more important things to concentrate your thoughts on right now rather than some memorabilia..

Mark was an absolute bastard to me, never remembered Xmas or B'day, and one day Norman dragged him down to GC in LA and bought me a 73 sunburst strat for xmas.It is still in the old house in Lon. Great guitar.

Norm has a strat but can't play. Everytime I went I'd restring and tune it and used to play Stay for him through his shitty old Peavey!!

Have you tried discogs? You might get a decent evaluation on there, would you need to know for insurance purposes?
