quick question for the builders. Is titebond an acceptable glue for sticking a black plastic veneer to a headstock or would I be better off using something else?

something else.  It will hold, but not permanently

Epoxy will work better than superglue due to the larger surface area.  Depending on the type of plastic you can also consider plastic glues like weld-on

Thanks for the reply @WezV - I thought as much, after posting this I did give the titebond a try with an offcut from the plastic on some wood and I could pull it apart with my fingers the next day. My wife had various multipurpose craft glues so I went with one of those.
