POG and alternatives

What's Hot
DaiCappDaiCapp Frets: 135

I play a fair bit of Jack White type stuff and I'm thinking about getting a POG to thicken up my tone - thing is they are bloody expensive so I was wondering if there are any alternatives out there. I'm aware of the mini and micro POGs but are there any other makers out there doing something similar...

Cheers

Don't Mooer do a decent little knock-off of the NanoPOG?

Probably the very cheapest would be to pick up an istomp (provided you have an ios device and the correct connecting cable) for £25 and use Swing Shift which has 5ths and octaves. Although I have an istomp I've never actually tried the Swing Shift, or played through a micro pog, but it's there.

  • If you don't mind the tracking being slightly off (obviously depends on what you're after), I absolutely love the Earthquaker Organizer, which is a lovely and warm octave up and down. Really nice pedal. But again, if you're after something that tracks well, may not be what you're after.

Mooer tender octave. POG killer. Does both up and down

ETA don't get it confused with the Pure Octave

Really appreciate all the input - I'll check out some alternatives and also keep an eye out for something used...

Behringer US600  (it's a knockoff of a Boss PS5 and often said to track better than the Boss).
And if you want to add an expression pedal to its expression jack, they can be had cheap.

To my ears nothing sounds quite like a POG - the polyphony of it is incredible

  • My POG has gone!.... The Tc Sub n up has blown it away! Got few Tc mod pedals, although I've only ever had EHX octaves. I wouldn't go back. The high octave does sound like a guitar and far less organy. Can do the mutliplexer too in mono mode. I was shocked as loved my pog. But it wins hands down. Even stopped me gassing after a trex octavius!

I can vouch that I tried a Mooer octave pedal that was rubbish. I shall say it was the Pure Octave, as I can't remember and don't want to look like an eejit.

The guitarist in my last one had a multi effects unit that had a good octaver. Boss or Korg or something.

I kind of like the idea of splitting the signal - dry guitar going to something low watt like a champ and then the effected signal to a bigger amp.

  • Check out the T Rex Octavius. I think Andertons have them at £149.99.

Great under rated pedal. Superb tracking for both notes and chords.

I've got one- for next to no money it's pretty good. Although tracking can be a little ropey I've heard far worse from budget pitch shifters (I'm looking at you, Zoom G3). I don't think it sounds as clanky and metallic on upper octaves as other cheap pitch shifters I've heard demoed.

Not a POG alternative though, as it can't do simultaneous octave up and down.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

  • +1 for the Mooer Tender Octave, as others have said.

I also think the TC Sub n Up looks good, but I haven't tried it.

I have played a couple of different ones recently and the micro POG for me was the stand out unit. Simple enough to mess about with on the fly but the tracking is superb!

Well worth the money, you can pick one up second hand between 80 - 100 depending n the condition.
