I think it's mostly by having littler lengths of ropes cleverly concealed in his hands (you can see that he holds the rope in a very unnatural, "magicianny" way) that are looped to make it look like the longer length of rope. And other things...the "it's a loop, see?" bit is pretty obvious, he's just running his hands along it, and the knots are, I guess, some pretty dextrous one-handed tying while folding and cramming.

You can probably google every part of that trick and it will seem less clever, but even if you know how it's done I suspect there is quite a lot of practice getting things in the right place quickly and discreetly.

Teller doesn't know how he does it. It famously (well, amongst magicians anyway) drives him mad.
