Amp-style tremolo for dirty gritty country-blues-cowboy stuff?

Can anyone recommend a good tremolo pedal (bonus points for non-boutique, reasonable priced and fairly small) that will give a gritty bluesy western sound (think Murder By Death, Tarantino soundtracks)?

budget friendly then I loved the EH Pulsar but my always to a "which tremolo" question will always be Flint. Yes its more expensive but it is worth it.

I first followed Simon from Kingsley's advice on modifying the speed taking the resistor down to 500. it met all the classic tremolo speeds on songs like bang bang though was just under How Soon is now. so i asked my tech to take a look at it and he gave me 3 positions: 1000 (original on my model), 500, and on the last he put a trimmer. The trimmer allowed us to dial in the maximum amount for the highest speed. The bard needs these different values as the faster speed mod has a fault at low speed where the trem and depth disappear. The maximum is wonderful. I can get every tremolo speed I can imagine with a 3 way switch that allows me to leave the speed on max and switch between 3 alternatives (depending on where i leave the speed dial).

I got an AXL Fifties Tremolo pedal via Ebay a few years ago. Not a bad wee pedal for the price.

Boss TR-2 is a good quality, basic trem that is a hell of a lot cheaper than a Strymon or Kingsley.

I've owned loads would echo the TR2 love. If I hadn't, sold that I wouldn't of bought loads. Had the pulsar which was nice. there's some great sounds in it. I'm currently using a line 6 m5, Tap tempo and you can get everything from subtle to almost Vox repeater type things. and some really nice tremolo sounds. Plus all the other stuff and midi for the same as a standalone Trem pedal.

The boss tr-2 is a basic amp like trem that sounds excellent. Doesn't cost a lot and is pretty small too.

TR2 is Great workhorse especially if you spring for the Keeley modded ones. I've also got a TC classic tremolo going spare if you fancy that very amplike?

I think Strymon are missing a trick by not releasing a simpler range of pedals - smaller with a switch between 3 options and two or three pots - the trem and reverb on the flint would work on there own.
