Mojo Hand Rook.
I have one and it's not going anywhere! More versatile gain and the tone controls are great - bass and treble.
Good value too. Funny before I had the Rook Royale and didn't care for it - but the original is great.
Another one (will cost a bit more) is the Wampler Clarksdale
or spend large and get Strymon sunset and never want for an overdrive pedal again.
Not particularly cheap though unless you find it 2nd hand.

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?
Xotic BB Preamp or Emma Stinkbug
They were born for that combination
I really love my Pedalmods UK modded Boss SD-1. It's got the standard SD-1 mod 3-way clipping switch, a great midrange that's thicker than the standard SD-1 with a lower and wider midrange emphasis, a little more low end while still being on the bass-cutting side of things, and great top end that's articulate and clear but still smooth like I want an overdrive to be. It's one of those never-sell pedals for me.
Funny thing is, I always liked it but I didn't realise how much more I prefer it to the standard SD-1 until I had one side by side with it.
