Teach me Appley things!

What's Hot

I now have two iPads.  An iPad 3 and an iPad mini 2.  I'm slowly getting better at driving them, but still struggle with some things like closing apps and typing with autocorrect etc.  I've had a play with GarageBand which is fecking awesome, but I'm wondering if there are any "must have" killer apps I should investigate?

Apart from just web browsing, what can I do on an iPad that I can't on an android phone?

In truth, the only significant difference between the Apple and Android platforms is that some applications may only be available for one and not the other.

    I'm going to suggest Flux:FX http://flux.noii.se

The music-making stuff is a fabulous rabbit-hole to go down.

check out musicappblog and discchord.com for great intro articles

Things like Loopy HD are fun, especially if you also use audiobus to get other noises in there (Youtube is full of intros and demos of this stuff)

Music making is certainly an area where iOS seems to have the edge (apparently due to some pretty core way that the 2 OSs are built this is likely to remain the case for real time audio)

If you want/need to organise sheet music and setlistst then OnSong is outstanding

Do not get FLux:FX - it's not 64 bit so will stop working when iOS 11 comes out

And Apple don't let you put one icon in the bottom right of the screen.

One thing it appears very good at is not working that well with the forum - hence the double thread (now merged).  I've noticed there are more glitches when it comes to posting here with Safari than any other browser.

Safari is horrible.  When I had Mac I used Firefox.  You probably don't have that option on an iPad though.

I use Safari on here with zero problems. What problems are you having?

Well, if your not having any problems then it's probably down to my experimental weird WiFi setup at home.  I shall investigate further before blaming safari again.

True but irrelevant as OP has iPad 3. (Maximum OS 9.3.5)
