A very dangerous game game though as my wife has access to the inter web!
He's on instagram as playergradevintage
Very nice helpful guy that knows what he's talking about
He's also on Facebook
(formerly customkits)
I played another 55 conversion down at Guitar Village, it had the wrap tail piece and humbuckers, it also had a reprofiled neck (slimmer). Nice piece with lots of mojo but not for me from a playability perspective, i found it hard work. I ended up walking out with a player grade 61 Strat! picked it up and it played awesomely.
And yes, I am working my way through a case of early onset mid life crisis........
Genuine question on conversions - how are these viewed if you ever have to sell them? Meaning, are they still attractive (clearly not to Jobo collectors) or are they tarred with the Terry Morgan vibe?
I'm interested in getting one, but don't want to sit on something I can't move on if I need to
Obviously not sure what @skippy76 LP costs him
I think there is a market for them, clearly I was in that market for a short time. They won't be as quick to sell as a reissue but it is doable, at the end of the day they are vintage guitars albeit "devalued" by a refin and changed pickups. Take a look on eBay and Reverb there are some good examples on there from about £10-£20k
Cheers
The one in the op is a bloody lovely thing, and if I could tick all the boxes, I'd definitely be up for one like that!
I am not keen on the serial number or indeed the need for a serial number (to replace the '53 serial number or absence of serial number). But that may be churlish on my part.
My impression is that there are 100 buyers (worldwide) for every Conversion that comes up for sale. A great Conversion taken to a Jam night will instantly produce 20 UK buyers. 5 that have the cash and 15 willing to sell their Grandma to buy the guitar. All 20 potential buyers will be either Historic or Replica owners.
(Conversion = Expertly converted Gold Top with Provenance for both the original guitar and the work).
Will we see more Forum Members going down this route? Will they all have a user name that is skip related?
That would be a bit weird!
