Whatever it is, it's unusually delicate. I got the sense if I'd kept mine that it wouldn't have aged gracefully....

This happened on one gig and I don't remember knocking it at all. I don't really jump around with the guitar either! Too fat and lazy for that!
Does anyone know if Fender is planning to refresh the American Vintage/ Pure Vintage range- the UK website is only listing the 58 and 64 Teles for instance both in White Blonde? Would love a Lake Placid Blue but I think they were a limited run a few years back.
No sign of the 52 Tele either- I thought it would be a staple of the range?
As I mentioned earlier in the thread, my 2013 59 reissue marked if looked at for too long. Having owned original finish pre-CBS Fenders and CS models, this seems atypical of nitro-cellulose finishes in general - and wasn't an issue on the pre-2012 models.
These finishes don't seem to age attractively. I agree that Fender probably need to resolve this.
If it's any consolation. My AVRI is one of the best teles I've ever played. And I've played shit loads of Telecasters!
Every modern AVRI I have played has been quite special!
Could it be that the nitro is sprayed over a poly coat and the adhesion is not as good as a complete nitro job?
