Yes...because they are all already SG owners and they want to see if it goes ;-)

Ive owned an SG for some 30 years now, and have 3 and Id love to think they are worth fortunes, but sadly the reality is they are not.

    But GLWS anyhow.

    ^ This 100%. I've owned maybe 6 or 7 Yamaha SGs (still have 3 or 4 knocking about) - @spark240 owns 2 of my former SG-3000s*.

Despite skewed public perception (due to the wildly speculative pricing of one particular dealer across almost every available sales platform in the known universe), they are not worth vast sums of money. Great, great guitars...but £2K+? Errrr...no.

Well now that's knocked the bidding war that was about to erupt on my 'once in a lifetime opportunity to buy' sales thread on the head, I'd better go water down the kids' gruel once more :D

Bear in mind that this was in the very early '80's...

I wouldn't say "B*gger All" - just not the OTT prices speculatively bandied about (as already mentioned) by a certain dealer.

Well as I take a break from the honest toil I've been forced to engage in after my 'sell the Yam for a King's ransom' project didn't quite take off, I do ponder what these dratted things ARE actually 'worth'.  The price I'm asking for now is a shade over what I paid a while back, but I'm wondering whether I was so blinded by lust that I did something stupid.  Again.

  • I think a realistic price for an SG2000 (or at least what one would sell for) would be about £1200-£1300, but thats based on what Ive paid for them in the past.

    I sold an SG1000 for £1250 last year, whereas I sold an '81 SG2000 for £1350 in 2011...

It's been modded but has the original parts - Do you have the pickguard as well?

And lets not forget....I first had the LP Firebrand, which I traded with the weird Dr Feelgood for his LP Deluxe, I then took the Deluxe in a bin bag to Woodroffes ( it was raining and no case)...to trade for the SG1500. ;-)

I saw a very clean tobacco 2000, old enough to not have the coil taps, for 900£ on denmark st, perhaps 2 years ish ago. I should have bought it but I have a problem with denmark st in general so didn't bother. That was the asking price, I could have probably got something off. It was Vintage Rare/Notom shop, cant remember what they were actually trading as then.Dunno about case etc.

These are odd guitars really, very high quality but with only a niche demand that, right now, is massively over supplied so the market is totally screwed - people tend to have no real idea what they are worth due to that clown with his army of sockpuppet shills carpet bombing total rip off adds ( i could write an essay on this guy).

GLWS, I hope you are able to get what you want but be careful on denmark st if u trade

You did nothing stupid by buying your SG2000. You have a lovely guitar. It (IMO) is worth more as a guitar than it is as finance
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

Tell me about it! Speculative market saturation at it's worst...

Nope: the pickguard is lost in the mists of time.  Mine had different pups in for a while but the previous owner put the original ones back in before he sold to me.  The tuners have been upgraded but the original ones are in the case, which is also original.  Comes with free gaffa tape accents.

They're beautiful, and in many ways I prefer mine to my LP.  I just can't get on with the wider, flatter fingerboard.  I'm not sure the radius is any greater, but it certainly seems wider.  And with my delicate craftsman's hands, that's just not on.
