You may not like it, but steady on... comparing it to Tony Blair is a little harsh.

    I bet he buys one.

    In blue.

I like that Gibson semi hollow.

Actually, thats OK - god-awful colour, though. Black with a cream binding, deep wine red, or vintage cream (with associated plastics changes etc) would suit it better.
I'd also, personally, prefer dots on the fingerboard.

However, I'd rock that. Not often I say that about new Gibsons...

The point is for me that it's almost. Colours are horrible, the headstock doesn't work on that guitar, which is odd ascetically but also, whilst you're redesigning a Gibson, why would you leave one of the inherent weaknesses. It's got some good in it for sure, but it's 3K and seems ill thought out in that price bracket.

    Jinkies.

From looking at it I'd assumed £6-700.

I don't know what they fucking think they're doing.

And there shouldn't be guitars at a "consumer electronics" show.

Why? It's a common subject of discussion here that we've probably reached "peak guitar", in that the market is saturated and the only reason they continue to sell at all is because the ever-dwindling number of players are buying multiple guitars each.

Gibson are obviously trying to capture the imagination of a different demographic, given that every single person who walks into a regular guitar show already knows who they are.

There's a Harley-Davidson parallel here. In the mid-80s us hardcore bikers who'd propped them up for years were utterly contemptuous of their expansion into the affluent professional market, their sales of "collectables" like cologne, and dealers selling packages of a brand new Harley plus a Japanese 125 to pass your test on.

We hated it then and we hate it now, but it's the only reason they're still here.

    I don't hate it - I'm not sure I even care.

But anyone decrying this hopefully isn't also bemoaning a perceived lack of new guitar music or new guitar heroes - for the latter to happen, the makers have to sell the instruments to someone...

I like the looks of that semi-hollow.  I detest having 24 frets though so that's me out.
