- the Mustang neck has a rounded end, the Telecaster pocket has a square end
- the neck pocket would need extending about one inch towards the bridge
- after this shift, the neck screws through the body would align with the rounded portion of the neck.
Even if a short scale conversion neck could be found to fit, it will alter the sound of the Telecaster. You might not like the result.Rather than speculate, go and try a few Fender/Squier short scale guitar models - Mustang, Duosonic, Bronco, Musicmaster, Jaguar. See how you get on with these necks before committing any funds.
Definitely no tinkering on this then.
