The challenge is now open, and remains open for submissions until 11:30pm on 23rd April 2018
All you have to do is ...
Write a riff. You can include whatever else you want in the mix, but the main focus must be on the riff. Most entries will probably be guitar based riffs, but they don't have to be.
Keep it to a maximum of 50 seconds. This is about riffs, not songs.
Send your entry (as an mp3) to riffs@theFB.co.uk
Include your forum name in the email.
Voting will start soon after the submission deadline of 23rd April 2018, with each voter selecting their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice.
First choice gets 5 points - Second choice gets 3 points - Third choice gets 1 point
Voting will end on 11.30pm 30th April 2018
The order and scores of the top three entries will be announced soon after the voting ends. If there are 8 or more entries, then the order and scores of those in the top half will be announced.
No prizes. It's just for fun.
It's not a competition.

I was somewhat influenced by something else, and the title is a nod towards that.
It was influenced by a track by Mr J Beck on the Blow By Blow album. Anyone like to hazard a guess.
Anyway I'll let others guess as I'm not familiar enough with Mr Beck and won't just Google the album in order to guess.
FWIW my influence was my young daughter. She has been asking repeatedly to hear the final draft of my current composition challenge after I played it in the car to reference it through different speakers. She likes it even though it has "loud" guitars. That gave me the idea of introducing her to heavier genres by writing riffs/songs and telling her they're about unicorns.
It worked!
I played it to her yesterday and she's since listened loads of times because of the unicorn link. She is now subliminally being drawn to whatever progressive/sludge genre that riff would fit in.
I'm already wondering about what to do for next month... a thrash metal riff about mermaids? Post punk hardcore Barbie?

It's another pretty quicky from me I'm afraid. I probsbly spent more time playing around with the EQ levels on the different tracks than I did actually playing.
Still trying to learn about mixing, etc.
