Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself
But it just seemed to fit into the thread as something that many people here may be more likely to get as they age, with their hobby/profession being music too....
Interestingly, the consultant in the hospital told me not to blame myself and that it was probably just a coincidence that the onset of mine came so soon (72 hrs) after the headphone thing, but I'm confident the THR did it. Wasn't even super loud or that prolonged, but with hindsight I'm able to easily offer this advice, without trying to sound like a health & safety rep - don't risk your hearing. The tinnitus thing can drive people to take their own lives, it can be that severe for those unable to learn to cope with it, but it can often be avoided by taking simple precautions. prevention is better than cure, for there IS no cure with tinnitus. On the plus side, I guess if you can habituate to it in time, as I'm trying to do, it's better than lots of the other things people here have mentioned (stroke, heart issues etc) so I'm grateful for that, at least!
The reality for me is that care homes are deeply unpleasant and humiliating places. My MiL has been in one for about 5 years now and that has made my mind up about "taking the easy way out" before I have to go in one.
It doesn't hurt when it begins
The pain grows stronger, watch it burn
Tinnitus is a bit annoying.
Elbow pain is a bit irritating too.
I do consider myself pretty lucky though.

Arthritis is a constant pain ( pun intended). I've all but quit guitar playing.
Hair is appearing where it shouldn't and I'm resembling my grandfather.
At least my brain says I'm 15

My one regret. When I shook hands with the Consultant following the procedure - I should have said, “I’m not touching that, I know where it’s been”. But I missed my chance and I hope I never get another one.
