Stratish

What's Hot

I'm pretty sure that I'll be augmenting my less than impressive arsenal in the new year with a "nice-ish strat".  I posted a few days ago about trying a Fender American Pro Strat back to back with a G&L Deluxe Legacy.  I'm wondering what else should be on my list, in Strat territory?

That price point seems comfortable to me - possibly up to £2k.

Patrick James Eggle 96, you can probably pick one up used for £2k.

Secondhand Custom Shop.  Let's not have the Relic vs Closet Classic vs NOS debate.

I've got two, they're very very good.
Ultra light, well balanced and beautiful players.

That would be my choice as well. In fact it is - I bought a 2006 56 Relic about two and a half years ago. It’s an exceptional Strat.

I would think you'd get something more than ...ish for two grand :)

Depends how attached you are to the brand.  I'm not ashamed to say that, for me, it has to have the 'F' on the headstock.  Were I ever in the enviable position of wanting another Strat (which I always do, the ideal number being s+1 where s is the number you currently own) and having £2K to drop on one, I think I'd be scouring the classifieds very, very hard for Custom Shop stuff and seeing what's about.

I'm most certainly not wedded to the brand; in fact I'd say the opposite - I tend to shy away from the norm, hence looking at things lik G&L, Ibanez AZ, Talman, PRS Silver Sky, Studio etc.  I'm not sure about Custom Shop Strats, I've never felt worthy enough to try one.

Also - and I know I'll be looked down on for this - I don't like buying used gear.

  • Interesting timing, this vid just came out from Anderton's as if they heard your question!

Personally I'd have the Duesenberg, but it's clearly the least 'Stratish'!

Humbug to that, your money's got the Queen's head on it just like everyone else's.

I've never played a bad Ibanez, and G&L do have a terrific reputation.  I think you're going to get something tidy.

I've considered the Cutlass range, love the roasted maple necks.  But the necks are a wee bit on the thin side for me.

I'm horribly tempted by the Blade RH4, having owned one of the first blades from new in the 90's. I do have a reluctance to part with 2k however , but i'm tempted to have one shipped from Thomann for field trials.

Just think of me.  I own several, and you're a hell of a lot more worthy than I am.  ;)
