NGD: 62 NOS Custom Shop Stratocaster

Some of you will have read the thread a few days ago where I was looking to invest in a Custom Shop Stratocaster, as I could never find one with my preferred specs (particularly a 7.25” radius neck).

I got a shock when I found out how much Fender were looking for for a Custom Shop order nowadays, but then a guardian angel in the form of @barnstorm sent me a link to a CS Strat for sale at a shop in Glasgow - a mere hour away from me.

What he didn't realise was my preferred colour combination was the guitar in the link he sent me, Mint Green guard on Olympic White.

I took a drive through the next day, and couldn’t be more pleased. The guitar was listed as used but it’s mint, no signs of being touched never mind used. Plastic still on the guard, case candy unopened etc. Must have sat untouched since 2010.

Had a bit more time with it today. Changed the strings to 10’s, sorted the action and intonation to suit, some lemon oil and nut sauce and job done. Stunning guitar, very resonant, but happily the best strat I’ve played. If I had one gripe, it has been specced to have bigger frets than I’m used to (all my Fenders have vintage frets). Not a downer by any means, but as I say just not something I’m used to.

Not the best of days for pics but I’ve took a few.

Lovely mate, congrats. Classic look. Used to have an identical one actually. Might be worth thinking about a refret if it otherwise perfect guitar for you. The proper vintage skinny frets would always bother me personally. Would never get used to it.

Wow, it's got a really dark rosewood board.  What's the neck profile, '60s Oval C?

Exactly. Olympic White (particularly aged, like mine...) with tort or mint is such a great combo.

Is that because it’s nitro?  How long did it take to get to that shade of yellowing and is it the same on the back?  (I also have to ask, what’s the black stuff by the pickups!?)

It's a nitro guitar and does chip and wear like nitro, I'd always assumed the yellowing was due to that too, but perhaps that would happen with poly too?

That particular guitar was just out in the living room, the front is much more yellow than the back, which looks more like the colour of @Kylef 's gorgeous one above. It has taken maybe 5 or 6 years to go that colour. Like I say it wasn't in direct sunlight, just around the house. Also the left horn is the yellowest part of the top, while I've worn back through the yellow where my arm rests, so its a bit of a chameleon.

The guitar has been gigged pretty hard and the pic was taken after an especially energetic gig, the stuff around the pickups is blood splatter. I cleaned it all off after the pic  :)

That's a beautiful acquisition. Mint - and I'm not just talking about the scratchplate. If you don't bond with it, message me!

Oh and @terada .... blood splatter? Eeeeuuuuwww.
