Crikey - that's a rather lovely guitar for a first! I guess if he doesn't take to it, you'll have to inherit it...

Wise choice. Those are nicely built guitars. The sort your son could keep for life with, maybe, a few component upgrades along the way.

For example, when your son announces that he fancies getting a Stratocaster, just rewire the controls - either the PRS five-way PCB rotary selector switch or a push-pull pot to partially split the coils of the humbuckers.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

  • Excellent. I've often thought that if I could travel back in time and gift my young self a guitar it would be the SE C24
I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent

300 - I've not googled to see if I could have haggled, I was happy with that and I didn't have 'day off to be in for delivery' faff as it was local

I got an SE CU24 for Audrey for Christmas as her first decent guitar.
She had her Telecaster through last year and still has it but I wanted her to have something a bit more refined.
I paid £400 and it came with Dimarzio Gravity Storm pickups already fitted.

They're stunning value for money aren't they?
Well done and HNGD to your Son.
Also, the moon dot markers are excellent !

That will take him straight onto a stage if or when he gets that far !

Custom 24 I am looking has a £449 price tag on it so I would say £300 is well worth it

Is that the used price of an SE Custom 24?

I've wanted rid of mine for quite a while now (purely because I don't like the neck pickup position forced by there being 24 frets) but have been put off selling it because I've expected I wouldn't get enough money for it to be worth it.

May I ask if there's any average "going rate" you've came across? Or how much you'd realistically want to spend on one?

Depends which generation of the SE Custom you are discussing.

The first variant had a flat top. The current ones are arched.

Fixed bridge models avoid vibrato-related tuning issues. This may be important to some buyers.

As you mentioned, some buyers will be far more keen on a twenty two fret fingerboard.

I got an SE custom 24 as my first guitar too (after 4 years on my old man's gear). Two years on and I still love it. Top notch stuff to be honest, I've found it to be incredibly versatile with all the coil tapped tones. HNGD to your lad.

Yes, HNGD to your boy.....lucky lad !  I bought a 2018 (latest spec) SE Custom 24 just a month ago, with PRS gigbag in as new nick for £420.  Think you've had a fair deal at £300.
