    yes, global extinctions have happened before, and will happen again, I can't think of any that have been caused by one single organism that knew exactly what it was doing and didn't care enough to stop though.

    Agreed, but no other single species has evolved with such intelligence and stupidity on this planet before, hopefully humans go extinct and let the planet recover.

    not quite sure I understand your point, I guess mine is we could stop this. It isn't something beyond our control, it is possible.

    not quite sure I understand your point, I guess mine is we could stop this. It isn't something beyond our control, it is possible. 
    I guess I think it's ultimately a hopeless cause trying to change the whole human race's behavoir

    we used to think it was OK to own other human beings, there was a collective effort to change that. We used to think it was OK to make small children work down coal mines, we no longer do. Our history is littered with examples of how we've changed our collective behaviour. I refuse to give in to easy cynicism.
