Mags are the root of uncontrollable GAS, they are not terribly honest with their reviews (I can tell you why if you PM me) and are generally pretty light in the tuition department.
I would like to see less blah and more in depth subjects about DIY, maintenance, music theory, artist masterclasses, etc...
I know what you are saying, but equally, half the bloody reviews are skewed by advertising spend and freebies. I'm sure of that.
Equally equally, I'm sure a lot of 'seeding' takes place on some of the guitar forums.

What does piss me off is the way they'll (any mag) will use a name on the cover to over-exaggerate the content
e.g exclusive Gilmour tone break down inside = half a page of pentatonic scale maps.

I'm not interested in hi tech stuff and for stuff like guitar and amp reviews I can look at the picture, look at the spec and 99% guess the review content.I like interesting artist interviews ( ie a good interview regardless of the artist) and the UK mags struggle to deliver that.
The stupidity of The Vault bugged me enormously -made it hard to access content I was paying for, meanwhile half the stuff I was reading was freedom line anyway.
I don't know about other specialist publications ( fnarr fnarr) but I sometimes buy scooter mags ( engines, two wheels - not the ones for small children). Seems to be a simple divide between the in depth monthly ones and the glossy newbie bi- monthlies. They don't attempt to be everything to everyone.
I remember a while back, they did a petrucci one. Bloody terrifying.
Compared to some pth, it's pretty normal...
I've resigned myself to being average to poor (at best )
Though you could possibly argue they perpetuate some other ones. )
No. I found I was flicking past more and more of the articles. Also we are all able now to find out anything about any product as soon as the information is available, via the net.
Guitar magazines were a huge part in my learning to play, and when I was young and had the time i'd learn every lesson in there. Now they just seem like a needless extravagance.
'Bye Guitarist. Thanks for the good times.
