He once described the romantic novelist Barbara Cartland :  "Twin miracles of mascara, her eyes looked like the corpses of two small crows that had crashed into the white cliffs of Dover."  RIP

I remember his interviewing Meatloaf and asking what his kids called him...

"What do your kids call you? Do they call you "Meat"?
"No Clive, they call me Dad".

Sorry, edit. That was Clive Anderson.

Not unexpected, he'd been very ill for many years. Still sad though.

A real entertainer that educated you along the way.

    RIP Clive

If anyone hasn’t read Unreliable Memoirs you really should, it’s a great read.

    RIP.

My friend Spencer and I have a theory that famous people always die in threes....  Today we heard about Gary Rhodes, Jonathan Miller and then Clive James.

Sad news, I've never read any of his books (I probably should), but I loved his TV programmes in the 1980s.  I don't think there's really anyone equivalent to him nowadays.

He'd been very ill for a long time but 80's not a bad age.  I hope his quality of life wasn't too poor in recent years.

A very bright and funny man with the driest of wit... a lot of it self-directed in the last few years when he was ill.

    RIP

His description of Schwarzenegger - a brown condom full of walnuts - ranks as a high point in English literature.
