1972 Gibson Les Paul Custom Ebony
What's Hot
Hi!
My MBP has kicked the bucket and I'm looking at replacing it with a brand new one, which means I have to regrettably say goodbye to this absolute grail of a guitar and look at picking up something way cheaper.
I bought this from peteri 2 months ago. Some info from his ad:
It's had some work over the years, bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan Distortion from the early/mid 80s - wound by the now head of the Duncan Custom Shop (Maricela Juarez), one of the volume pots was changed when I got it. Neck pickup is the original T-top PAF.
It's had Grovers fitted in the 80s, and at the same time a headstock repair and refin - at least to the back and neck, and it looks like the front/back too (although it's well done and you still have the pick guard screw hole for example). This means the finish looks great for such an old guitar.
Has the original hard-shell case in good condition, and since I've had it - has had an excellent refret from Feline.
I believe the refin work was done at the same time as the headstock repair, likely by Andy's in Denmark Street - so it's very old work now and looks great.
Apart from glue in the truss-rod and maybe a slightly different angle on the headstock - you'd never know it has been touched.
This is a lovely sounding thing - you instantly have your foot on the monitor, even in the bedroom!
Not tooooo heavy at 4.7kg. Tapers down to a very slim neck at the nut.
Measures at the first fret 43.6mm wide, 18.4mm deep.
12th fret 51.7mm wide and 25.3mm deep.
Since buying it, I've had it setup with 10-48s at Edge Guitar Services in Bristol, replaced the witch hats with top hats, removed the poker chip, replaced the input jack and touched up the electronics a bit. Knobs and chip are included in the sale but the pickguard was removed before I got it.

Comments
I'm convinced it was mine but I just don't have any pics or details to prove it.
If I had the cash I'd be all over this - if its anything like (or is!) my old one its an absolute belter of a guitar - one of the ones that got away.
GLWS
for anyone asking about the serial number, I'm going to try and take a photo when the sun's out as it's incredibly difficult to make out in person, never mind on camera, due to the refinish (but still possible with good lighting).
