    Is it a Mesa/Boogie?

    I'm thinking about my DSL actually

  • I used to think exactly the same when I was using valve amps, so I swapped to a digital solution - Helix + FRFR to solve the issue.

    Still the bloody same. Must be my cloth ears.

    Humidity, temperature , and I reckon it affects your ears as well

    I know what you mean - sometimes I think it might be something to do with the unforgiving nature of valve amps and that on days your playing is even marginally under par, your amp just amplifies (no pun intended) your short comings on that day.

    Luckily I'm crap enough to never have to wonder whether my gear is having an off day.... :)

    Had the same experience with the Mesa Mark IV I had. It drove me insane

    Yep, yesterday I sounded like a rock god, today my amp sounds poo.... it's really annoying!

    My head said brake, but my heart cried never.

  • I'm the same with guitars as well as amps. Some days my go-to sound floats my boat, other times I wish I wasn't as bored by it and experiment more, but always come back.

    You’re not the only one. I’ve been puzzling this for years. Valve amps, solid state, or digital. Some days ot works, some it doesn’t. The biggest variables from day to day aren’t the equipment but the player/listener. We could write a list of factors as long as your arm which change from day to day. Just a few: standing on or off axis from the speaker, fingernails need cutting, fingers are stiff, tuning is off, ears are tired (or in my case hearing aid batteries need changing). Tiredness is a big factor. It’s not a problem on a gig night because adrenalin levels are high, but after a busy day playing can be wooden. The answer which suits me on bad days is to go and do something else instead.

    @Roland have a Wiz.

    I always used to think it was variation in mains voltage, humidity etc. but I think you are correct, it could be absolutely anything.

    If in doubt, just turn it up.  ;)

    Bye!

  • I also have been wondering this over the last couple of years.

    I now firmly put it down to me and my playing. The irony is that the moment it is sounding good, then I get more inspired, and it sounds even better.

    And of course the reverse - doh !!!
