Tracktion 2 - starting again, what to do?

What's Hot
I’ve got my old recording rig out. It’s a Mackie Onyx with a FireWire interface. Running into tracktion 2 with a usb midi interface.

I’m wanting to start recording again and do more sequencing with my Roland Synth.

Before I commit to learning it all in T2, should I upgrade to something more modern?
If I upgrade tracktion is it backwards compatible to my old projects?

    Reaper.

Free for evaluation and extendable and then really cheap to buy.

Youtube also has a huge number of tutorial vids for it.
