aka DS Carter..................and others

no more writing the theme tune, singing the theme tune.

not the greatest actor in the world but a massive part of, well most of my TV years really
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

I was a bit too young for The Sweeney. The intro music was the signal that I had to go to bed. I bloody loved Minder though, I watched a couple of episodes quite recently.

    RIP.

Oh, blimey, that's sad news. I absolutely loved him and John Thaw together in The Sweeney. A great foil for George Cole in Minder, too. RIP Dennis and thanks for the memories.

Oh wow, I hadn't seen this.  I don't (with respect) think he was a great actor, but he appeared in some great programmes.  There was a wonderful grimy, gritty feel to The Sweeney and the early series of Minder which I don't think we'll ever see in TV again.

Wow, that is a shock.  I never really got into The Sweeney (it was a time when I didn't have a telly), but Minder was brilliant.

    RIP indeed.

Very few people can maintain an acting career for over 30 years by effectively playing the same character in different situations.
    Good on yer Dennis, RIP.

Minder is still one of the funniest TV Programmes ever to grace our screens, in my opinion.

    Cor! Do leave off, Arfur!

    RIP.

That’s really sad news. Almost an ever present on the telly box for about as long as I can remember..
Sweeney was just great. Minder was good, too, but maybe went on too long.. also really enjoyed New Tricks..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

Seriously? a supposed tribute thread and we don't even get the name Dennis Waterman in the title?

An iconic TV actor, sad to go relatively young at 74. RIP Dennis

Dennis waterman r.i.p ,  grew up watching him in the two obviously iconic series but i think he had more range than that , my favourite film of his is "up the junction"  with suzy kendall,  also loved him in the great tv series "the life and loves of a she-devil " with julie t wallace ... he also did a hammer with jenny hanley "scars of dracula "  and also british horror film peter collingsons "Fright " with the lovely susan george and interestingly george cole who even though they didnt meet on that film later became the classic duo ...

its not that many child actors that transition and keep going with as long a career as he did , i was reading that he out lived john thaw by 14 years and the way both of them drank and smoked 74 is not a bad innings .... x

Loved it when as the character Terry he would say "blimey its taters "  took me ages to find out " taters in the mold " = Cold ...

Also i read robin askwiths biog  its sounds like those london based actors in the end of the 60s / 70s had a wail of a time, george layton , dennis , richard O'sullivan and linda bellingham ( liked to get the girls out apparently lol )  playing footy and all the auditions etc ... Halcyon days ....
