just because you do, doesn't mean you should.
But I think the Red Label series are a serious sattempt by Yamaha to take on the much higher priced USA made Martins and Gibson. Plus I think they are at least finished in Japan if that matters.
Some reviewers claim the Yamaha FG5 wipes the floor with a Martin D18. Based on my one I am not sure if that is true, the Yam holds it own in most respects but it’s for me somewhat boomy lower end sound does not match that D18 growl. OTMartin’s QC has appeared to be inconsistent compared with Yamaha, and in the UK a D18 costs nearly three times as much.
So at around 1k and if the OP is ok with mahogany , no electronics, and plain looks the FG/S/3/5 might be the correct choice.. or as has been said a lower end Furch( who seem to have made this rough price their specialty)
