Between the four of us we have a range of experience between about 20-50 gigs at a guess, we haven't actually explicitly spoken about this ... not hundreds and hundreds of gigs at any rate.
Some initial general, making-assumptions thoughts: get the right mic. The SM58 might be a universal standard but female vocals can require a different EQ but also good feedback resistance - because you will almost certainly need very powerful monitoring. There are lots of good mics out there these days that are not SM58s. I'd advise your singer to experiment and buy her own mic. (And remember to take it to and from gigs!!!).
I would also say there's a general need to tailor your stage volume to the monitors you have available.
