Hello,
Looking move on one of the flock.
I got this guitar from a good friend a while back but never really played it. It's in great condition.
According to my friend it is the following spec:
70's US body
Eric Clapton neck
Bridge and Middle PUP's are SD SSL-1's
Neck PUP is non staggered poles US pick up (not sure year though)
Could be interested in a trade for small valve amp or a bass.
Could supply a Hard case of sorts for it.
Cheers

    UPDATE!
Found out that the hard wear is from WD Products. The saddles are titanium.
    Thanks

Longest of long shots, but I don't suppose an 80s Marshall JCM800 2x12 combo would be of interest in part ex?
It's the 4212 model, 50 watts, awesome Marshall tones.

Serviced towards the end of last year, works perfectly.
Has 2 foot switches with it.
No reverb tank, but the proper replacements are only £30.

    Thinking around £400 value.

Thanks for the offer Lewligan. however i have one already (well 100watt version) and just bought a 1974x combo, so would have to pass on the amp trade offer.

They do sound very good though those 800's :)

Looks like a fantastic amount of guitar for the money ... very tempted. Any evidence or proof that the body is genuine USA? The neck obviously looks legit :)

That's a great looking Strat. Now, meant in the nicest way, are you sure about the neck? Clapton sigs have 22 frets and are a lighter satin finish. Just asking, no offence intended.

@Richardj that was going to be my next question. From google image searches, the Clapton neck seems a lot lighter and the actual signature at the end of the headstock is done with much thinner lines. Might not be the bargain I thought it was after all ...

With the greatest respect, Im not sure the neck is a Clapton / Blackie neck either . . It's certainly not like the Google images I've looked at . . .
Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !

Hmmm all interesting comments guys. Trust me I'm not trying to rip anyone off but I'm no expert on this things. I'm just passing on what my friend of 20 years has told me. What I do know is that he bought all the parts seperate and got the body refinished. I donlt know if the neck is a neck off one o the orig Clapton strats or one of those you can apparently buy seperate.

Regarding the body...once again only my friends word for it I'm afraid

I'm not in the UK at the moment so can't get any more pix up or details.

    Hi,

I've done a bit of investigating myself now....and totally confused. All blackies I can see have a white nut compared to the black/greyish one fitted to mine. This of course could be an aftermarker one of some sort. I was thinking for a while that the neck had been refinsihed a darker honey colour. However, what's more strange is the the truss rod hole on the ones on the web have a rodewood insert, my one doesn't.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm!

Guys I think I will hold on to this due to the dubious nature of the history of it. I will inform my friend when I get back to UK as I'm pretty sure he also bought the neck in good faith.

Sorry for wasting your time guys, and thanks for the comments and heads up.

  • Hi,
Just thought I would check up on this again. It would seem the early Blackie prototypes were fitted with 21fret necks as per the original (according to vintage guitar mag).
So, still don't know what I've got...surely not one of the prototype necks!!!
All I know is that it's a great sounding and playing guitar.
    Any ideas?

  • Not sure on ideas - but looks nice! Is it still for sale?

Honestly, it looks very much like a Strat type neck with Fender logo, EC sig and 'Blackie decals applied fitted to a black Strat type body.

It all looks good and I'm sure the hardware and electrics are top notch.

Does the neck have a distinct 'V' profile?  Have you checked the serial number with Fender in the US? That at least would answer any questions about that.

In no way is intended as an insult or slur on you, that's just how it looks.

    You did ask. :)
