Your Year in Gear - 2016

What's Hot
Have we done this yet? It's december so definitely time to reflect on our successes and sins in the endless merry-go-round of music equipment. So...

What have you bought this year? What have you kept? What have you sold?

If anyone can find January's thread on old plans and expectations it might be fun to compare... :D

    I'll go first, I suppose!

After a restrained 2015 I have pushed the boat a little further this year. Not many items, but I'd like to think all high-quality stuff that I plan to keep a long time.

    IN:
MJT Jazzmaster - Awesome thing and worth every penny AND the long wait
Bad Cat Cub III 15R combo - It's only been here a week but it's chuffing good.
Ninevolt Pedals Surfing Bear OD - Just a tubescreamer, but comes with happy memories of a great holiday, and it has a bear drinking a cup of tea on it. What's not to love?
Copperpeace straps - not a major GAS item, but really very well made, comfy on the shoulder and fantastic to look at.

    OUT:
Laney Lionheart L5T combo - really nice amp and I'm glad I've tried the 5W class A thing because now I know I definitely prefer a good 15W with a decent master volume. It was really nice looking though, and I miss the built in tilt-back stand.

Is that it? I think it might be. I must work on this through 2017...

I started the year with an Epiphone Plus Top Pro Les Paul (in Desert burst), and a Vox VT20+ modelling amp, then during the rest of the year ive...

Part Ex'd the Epiphone for a 2016 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute.

Sold the Vox VT20+ as most of my very limited practice time was taken up twiddling with knobs trying to decide what sound I wanted.

Purchased a Vox Lil' Night-Train and a Jet City 1x12 Cab

Purchased a used Vintage (brand) V6 Icon SG -a-like.

Sold the Vox Lil' Night Train and Jet City Cab.

Purchased a Boss Katana 50w Combo (yes, back to modelling)

Purchased a ESP-LTD Viper 256 in See-thru Black Cherry (NGD post shortly)

...and the Vintage SG-a-like will probably be gone after this weekend :)

So, compared to what im expecting to see in other responses to this thread, its been fairly quiet for me :)

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

    Out:
Fender '68 Custom Princeton and Jet City 100HDM.

    In:
A pair of Jet City Custom 22 heads, built into old Fender combos with a Celestion Classic Lead 80 speaker in each.

Apart from the usual merry-go-round of pickup and wiring experimentation I think that's about it. Since gigging has become the major part of my income again I've reined in the spending on gear this year.

    EDIT

I'm a total liar, I just remembered I've given away three guitars and a 2x12 this year, and I've built a partscaster.

I'm not going to chance looking at my Paypal history though!

    ANOTHER EDIT!
I also built a tweed Princeton clone, I'm going to stop thinking about it now!

  • In: Fender '62 AVRI Thin Skin Jaguar.
          Mojo Jazzmaster pickups.
As the DOD 565 Chorus didn't work and went back, that's it for this year.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

I've not (yet) bought a guitar!  I actually have one less than last year.  There was an amp in but that was in part ex on the guitar.

There have been 2 or 3 pedals in plus 2 or 3 out, and I bought a new audio interface and some recording software/plugins but that's about it.

    Quite restrained.

Started the year with a Takamine laminate acoustic, a capo, a few picks and three chords.

    Finished it with:

    Taylor 324ce
    MIM Strat
    Yamaha THR10
    Digitech JamMan Express

Oh, and I now know four chords!

Hmmm, I'm a little new to this trading malarkey, but here goes

    In -

Way Huge - Supa Puss, Blue Hippo

    EHX - Cathedral

my first (and only) pedals in about 15 years!

Blackstar TVP 15 - I know not everyone likes Blackstar, but I genuinely preferred it to the Katana (thought it lacked 'depth') and THR10C (lacked volume)

    Not yet arrived, but ordered

Thornton Dexter amp - beautiful sounding amp from newish UK builder who deserves to be more widely known (Thanks DrBob, of this parish)

633 Drive King - still a ways to go on this one, but deposit down......

    Out

    Marshall 6101 combo

Palm Bay Tidalwave (still to be delivered though)

    Line6 PodXT

I suppose I should also count in my first two homemade pedals (a Way Huge Red Llama clone, and a Lovepedal Woodrow clone), and a bunch of timber acquired from D Dyke to be made into various beasties.

    Cheers,

    Adam

Well a baby stopped play pretty much so it's been a quiet year, and you know what, it didn't compromise my enjoyment of guitar one bit, so a lesson learned I think.

    Guitars:
2016 Gibson SG Standard P90 (bought and sold).
Godin Core CT P90 (still have but prob up for sale soon).

    Amps:
Vox AC10 - cracking little combo but sold anyhoo.

    Pedals:
Quite a bit of activity at the start of the year if I recall, will have to go through old photos and update later!

I've done a lot this year and basically ended up with the same setup haha.

    Guitars
Put together a telemaster parts, spent ages doing it then realised I hated the neck/fender scale length so sold at a massive loss. Should have just got a jaguar.

sold Pearl LP Custom which I sort of regret but not really as it was so heavy. But sounded and looked really cool.

Bought Epi LP Standard and sold after a few weeks as I realised I didn't need it, I just thought I needed an LP in my collection.

    Pedals
bought a TC Spark Booster then realised why I sold my first one haha, just prefer my tubescreamer !
Fuzz War clone which I do love but wish I did a ToneBender clone instead as it'd be more versatile
Fuzz dogs LPB-1 clone which I'm yet to build. Could have bought a real one for cheaper but wanted it in a smaller mini shell.
    Sold vox wah
PT Metro 16 and onespot psu, kinda wish I go a metro 24 but I love the PT design still.

    Pickups
loads for my SG, finally settled on an Axesrus Purist bridge humbucker and late 50s hum size neck p90. May replace the neck with another Purist but haven't decided yet. Axesrus pickups are awesome if this is anything to go by. Better than BKP and Irongear imo, or at least the best I've found for my guitar.

Amps, tried selling my Laney to get a Marshall but no luck at all.
