This is the Discussion where confirmed attendees can nominate the song(s) that they would like to play on the day at Factory Studios, Bristol.
Please include;
- The title of the song.
- The artiste version or arrangement on which your performance will be based.
- The instrument part(s) that you can play for that song.*
- Whether you can sing that song.
- The key in which you need that song to be performed.
I am toying with the idea of a transferrable voting system. Nominate one preferred song and a couple of alternatives. That way, it might be possible to reach wider agreement over what should be played on the day.
If, for example, there were ten requests for Status Quo cover songs, it should be possible to reach a compromise over which song(s) people prepare thoroughly for the session day.
Take it as read that certain perennial favourite songs are likely to be nominated. The only decision to make will be the unruly bickering over who gets to play on them.

Volunteers to play the bass guitar part will be especially welcome. This would give the 'house bassist du jour an occasional break for food, coffee, lav and smoking.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

If you have not already done so, please put your name down for any songs on which you wish to play. Where there is sufficient demand, there will be more than one opportunity to perform each song.
If there is any song that you feel strongly should be reinstated to the lists above, use private messaging to assemble a line-up for that song, then, contact me or Brocco.
Ithenkew.
Led Zeppelin (Album version, LZ IV)
As alternatives:
If you want Blood (You got it)
Rhythm / Lead Guitar
Not a chance and it can't be transposed really. Needs a good singer to pull this off.
These are just suggestions to start with that are do-able.
I have no real burning desire to play these or any songs for that matter, I want to be there to help on the day and back people up if needed so whatever songs I learn and prepare will only be for that and if I don't get to play any songs on the day that's perfectly cool.
(Erm, Rock And Roll is actually on Zep IV.)
LOL.
Pink Floyd (The Wall album version)
Lead or rhythm guitar
Vocals if needed, although it’d be Gil-less rather than Gilmour.
Bm
or:
All right now
Free (Fire and Water album version)
Lead guitar or bass
No vocals, I cannot sing this
A
or:
Motorcycle emptiness
Manics (preferably the Forever Delayed version 5:06 edit)
Lead guitar
No vocals, can’t sing this either!
E
I can play bass on a couple of other songs too if that’d help, provided they’re not Jaco levels of difficulty.
I'll hit up a guitar if there's space on something I know, or bash out some rhythm while singing. Think of me as a shit version of @roberty and you'll be on the right track! I'll be lower in the vocal range I've no doubt.
As for nominations; I'll chuck in a couple of jam classics / easy thrashes that have room for interesting stuff. I know I can sing these, and play if required:
Sit Down - James
I can sing this and play the little lead fills / mini solo, or bash out rhythm or bass
Teenage Kicks (duh)
Sing and either rhythm or bass
Girl from Mars - Ash
Sing and rhythm
My Trading Feedback | You Bring The Band
Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after youLet me start with a couple of suggestions:
Rocks - Primal Scream.
Any, I like the Memphis tapes version
Lead/rhythm
I can’t sing
The Key of A
The Wind Cries Mary - Jimi.
Are You Experienced Version
Lead/rhythm
I can’t sing
The key of F Maj
Other ideas include Ironman and Alive by Pearl Jam.
As always with Hendrix material, the vexed question is tuning. Everyone in Standard or everyone dropped to Eb?
I think TWCM Are You Experienced version is in standard. So I suggest standard tuning.
A dedicated Hendrix/SRV fiend probably has a Stratocaster especially for playing "in position" in Eb. Keyboard players might be able to cheat by means of a Global Transpose button. A five string bass guitarist might get away with playing down one string and up four frets. (CUE: Bridgehouse quips about real bassists not requiring frets.) A four string bass guitarist will be seething.
Thank Clapton for that.
Hands Open - Snow Patrol
20th Century Boy - T. Rex
Basket Case - Green Day
Bohemian Like You - The Dandy Warhols
Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Song 2 - Blur
Your Touch - The Black Keys
Hate To Say I Told You So - The Hives
Ever Fallen In Love - Buzzcocks
Boredom - Buzzcocks (or Magazine)
The Cross - The Squiggle Formerly Known As Prince
Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones
Tusk - Fleetwood Mac
As your friendly neighbourhood song list organiser, I am supposed to remain neutral. That said, I would be very pleased to receive nominations for some Sly Stone, Richard Thompson or Frank Zappa pieces.
