Doubt I'll finish in the alloted period but hoping to get going a bit soon.
The time is the least important bit of this challenge, IMHO.  More important to get it done, one day or another ...
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

  • As I have limited time for doing at the moment, mind turns to thinking... about the headstock... How mad would a MOTS covering be? shape, simple curve across the top....

Definitely a touch of the Liberace's about that one!  Sort of retro cool though...

i have a cheap old archtop with a pearloid headstock

i guess the only real concern would be finding a thickness that works okay.... a lot of pearloid is 3-ply, should still work but single ply would be better

  • I guess it would be better if I could find enough to do the scratch plate too. And if it were more cream than white.... Oh boy, this might all be done by Christmas

you can get cream pearloid fairly easily.  a 12x18" sheet will be plenty for scratchplate, backplate and headstock

  • That pearloid is lovely. I see what the guy said about a touch of the Liberace, but on a LP Jnr I think it'll be ace.

  • I AM going to build this, I swear it - life has just been a bit anti recently

Just noticed this. I'm still alive (of sorts!) and if you need a Junior loom let me know. I'm probably too late on this i know but if i can help i will.

    Cheers

Kit ordered (couldn't wait). Pickup ordered (p90 with a cream dogear cover) from Melvyn Hiscock. When I did my modded LPJ I used a set of PAFs from Melvyn and they were brilliant. Since he is P90 obsessed I am sure this will be even better. I shall look sadly in Shugz direction - would have loved to have used a loom from him... again the one in the LPJ was simply beautiful - I guess I'll have to get an PIO cap from somewhere and do it myself!

I'm thinking something vaguely like this (love the controls on this but that might be too ambitious).

Still like to do competition stripes or similar... and now I'm thinking about the headstock shape....

Had a pearloid headstock on a Collings 290 once. Looked fantastic in the flesh and I'm not one for gaudy!

No, are they a Collings dealer now or was it in the used section? I sold it a while back on ebay, certainly miss it!
