THR Users, share some experiences and settings?

I thought, seeing as we do have a few THR users here, it might be interesting to see who does what and how?
I know that we all like different things etc, but I wondered whether there was some mileage in sharing some experiences and settings?
This mainly came about because of my infamous chum who got a THR10C recently, and no matter what he did, it just didn't quite sound "right". This struck me as all the more odd as thus far I have found it nigh on impossible to get anything other than a great sound out of my THR10.
It soon became clear that he wasn't that au fait with dialling in and balancing Gain and Master settings. For instance, on mine, if using the "Crunch" setting, I find that having the master wide open really pays dividends and gives some real depth to the sound, whilst if using the "Clean" setting, I found that backing off the master a touch worked well.

How about you guys? Anyone using anything slightly different with theirs? Anyone tried running a graphic in front of it?
Hopefully this might become a topic that gives us users some different ideas to try?  Also, how about differences between Single Coils and Buckers? I have been using a right old mixture of pickup types and have thus far only found that I had to make adjustments to two types of pickups, both of which had the potential to sound just a bit too bright, but adjusting their heights sorted that out.

    @ddlooping

^^ those guys are both THR fans, IIRC, and should now be dropping by anytime soon :)
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Ive been looking for  small living room amp for some time and am now seriously considering the THR.  Looks as though the 10 would be better than the 5 as it has a flat setting which is probably better for the Pod HD to go thorough.  Shame the 5 doesn't have that setting as my local music emporium has a good offer on the 5 at the moment, so Im trawling ebey in the hope a 10 pops up at a decent price.

I had looked at a Greta but Im not sure how the Pod will react with it.

Nothing special to share I'm afraid.
I just plug the guitar in (will soon try an HD500 with the flat setting), fiddle with the controls until I get the sound I want (unless I've already saved it) and then play. :)

There are those who will raise their eyes in horror when they hear this I suspect, but, on a recent forum jam we did, I recorded all the Rhythm Guitar Parts with the THR set on Flat and had a Digitech Red Special Pedal doing its stuff aided slightly by a Graphic as well.
On Paper, it shouldn't really have worked as well as it ultimately did.
The Flat response was brilliant for this and now it is something I use fairly regularly when doing anything specialist, but nine times out of ten I am on the "Lead" setting and driving all the sounds from the guitar's volume control, something which the THR really, really knows about too.
I am sure you'll all find that the HD500 will produce wonderful things when used in this way.
    ;)

  • for a nice warm fat drive sound i use the lead setting set up as follows

    gain 3 o'clock,  master 1 o'clock, bass 2 o'clock, mid 1o'clock, treb 3 o'clock + a good pinch of reverb

Any update on the HD500 into the THR flat setting?

I'm quite tempted to buy a Pod HD Desktop for this precise purpose.

all seems a bit 'pointless'  plugging anything 'into' the THR to me,   completely defeats the purpose of having one.

If you want 'better sounds'  get a more appropriate amp...............  you dont grab a bite to eat from Cost-Co expecting it in a Louis Vuitton bag

I can appreciate your view point Bert, but, I can see the application of this having done it myself, especially when recording. As you no doubt know, you get a Wet and a Dry recording, this is so useful when editing or mixing. Also, if like me, the THR is your only "amp" there isn't much option.
I do agree that the THR's effects are great, especially once you have got into the Editor Software, but sometimes, you might require something else as well, which is when I have used the THR set to "Flat" and put the effect through it using the THR as an interface.

I use 5 presets that I tweak until I like them and then store those. I have a Fender clean sound w/ reverb, a metal-ish rythm tone, a fusiony clean tone with lots of chorus, a preset that was actually called Brown Sound and finally a very flat, woody preset which uses surprisingly the bass amp model. I don't really have time to 'find my tone' when I play.

ah yes, thats the key -   for me  its the 'wash and go'  aspect that is the main appeal of a THR
