I was going to mention a few of Dirk Bogarde films but a quick check makes a lot of them Italian. Some absolutely ace films nonetheless. What's the one with Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland in Venice? British? If so, add it to the list.
Don't Look Now and yes I think it counts as British, it was one of the first things I thought of. :)

There are definitely some good British Dirk Bogarde films - The Blue Lamp, Victim and The Servant spring to mind.

I had to look that one up!  Reading the synopsis I think I may have seen it many years ago, but I'd like to see it again.

    Very British.
This isn't a Hollywood film.  No explosions.  No car chases.
It's gently amusing, and it has a truly British take on beauty... and what it's like trying to start a band.
Someone on here recommended it last Christmas and I'm just passing it on cos I loved it too.
and lets not forget the musical sequel "5, 6, 7, 8" by steps.

Still Crazy. There's a badly hacked version that appears on telly sometimes and omits the wonderful Billy Connolly line "I have this irresistible urge to chronicle human folly".

I've played a gig on the light vessel that was used in that film. A load of local bands played a show in the middle of the river stout for a pirate radio station. It's now moored at Harwich marina.
    Got properly shitfaced that day.
