Nine Below Zero

What's Hot

Back in the day when we were all a bit younger, I was quite a NBZ fan.

Bought their latest album a week or two ago, gave it a quick listen and dismissed it as "not what they used to be".

Which is - of course - perfectly true.  But I gave it another listen today and, between various conference calls, I've had this on repeat play most of today

It's brilliant.

I'll give that a listen later. I've got a few things by them and remember them on both the Young Ones and the South Bank Show. I saw them live a couple of years ago but they were a bit past their sell by date TBH.

I saw the name of the band and 'Dennis Greaves' popped into my head. I remember that he just seemed a superb guitarist for the time.

Hehe, nice one @robinbowes it was the first episode by the looks of it, in the original house. Can you both remember "Nosin Aroun' Nosin Aroun'" from the same episode :)

Seen them a few times but admittedly not since the original drummer and bassist left a few years ago. I don't know what the new line up is like. Last time I saw them they were a bit average tbh, playing old poppy stuff like Sugar Pie Honeybunch or whatever it's called, plus some blues standards. The harmonica player is genius though.

Mark Feltham - I was thinking about him this morning oddly enough. Listened to Talk Talk's 'The Colour of Spring' while doing the ironing - he plays on Living in Another World. I agree - genius player.

I went and bought a NBZ 'best of' compilation based on that Young Ones performance.....

....and ended up being very disappointed.    Sounded like a load of blues standards and covers to me.

I feel the same about Dr Feelgood, too.  I really like Wilco and some of the bands' "punkier" output but most of the material leaves me cold.

Used to love their music back when I was younger and caught them at Glastonbury last year with their new big band sound. Have recently seen them do a longer gig with this version of the band at the Arlington Arts Centre near Newbury. If you get a chance to see them live do so, they're different now but still brilliant.
