Do FX pedal manufacturers sell spare backs so you can use velcro and not knacker resale value?

I've often wondered why someone doesn't make a pedalboard system that involves taking off your pedal's backplates and scewing all your pedals to a single sheet of metal.

The kind people at Empress sent me a new base plate free of charge to replace one that had lost it's paint due to velcro.

In the latest episode of That Pedal Show on YT, Mick Taylor stats he loves the twin-lock stuff that Gigrig use because it always comes off cleanly. He even shows that he trusts it enough to put on his Klon Centaur. It's towards the beginning of the video so you won't have to sit through it all to find it.

Given that you're going to sell it to someone else who will then put more on, and then go through the same thing when they sell it, and so on... why bother?

Unless of course you have shares in a company that makes replacement ones :).

Boss does (at least in the USA). They come with the rubber pad, but not attached, so you can leave it off and apply velcro more easily.

If you just want a better surface on which to adhere velcro, you can flip the plate on many Boss pedals. There are some where it won’t fit this way, though.

I've swapped the bottom off of a zvex pedal with one off a blank hammond box that I'd stuck velcro on. If you have a lot of the mxr/1590b sized pedals, and you already have velcro on some that aren't currently on your board, you could swap the bottoms round.

Shouldn't really be an issue, all 3 pedals I'm selling, the velcro just peeled off with a bit of persuasion, just get one corner up then peel slowly and then a quick rub with an alcohol swab gets any residue off.

I usually buy two identical pedals and keep one in its box so I can retain its value on the second hand market.

I just soak my pedals in sulphuric acid before I sell them. Velcro comes off a treat.

I do the same with cameras so I can take a photo of it when I want to sell it.

  • I just buy shit pedals no one else would buy. Then I can cover them in Velcro with gay abandon and not worry one iota. Easy.

I think he uses Gay Abandon to stick them down.

Sound like some some type of adhesive.
