The Wombles had Chris Spedding on guitar, you can't knock Chris. I was watching a thing the other day with Steve Jones and whilst Steve denies Chris having played on Never Mind the Bollocks he did explain how important he was to the development of the band when they did their demos with him. I saw Chris live with the War of the Worlds tour a few years ago and he was still excellent.

Give me the Wombles over...well so many I could name it hardly behooves me to be specific...any day.

Watched a 1993 edition of TOTP on BBC4 tonight. Probably because I was 19 in 1983, I kind of had it down as a bit of a pop 'golden era'. With the benefit of fresh ears - and 34 years' worth of cynicism, I can confirm there were some shockers; Elvis Costello's 'Every Day I Write the Book', Banamarama's 'Cruel Summer' - plenty to chose from...
