    The above is true - you can set your price and the shop adds what they want on top, and you may end up selling it quicker and with less personal hassle.

    But what got to me was that the shops I spoke to were really evasive when I asked about the finer details, so I frankly didn't feel like I could trust them.

    @Guitars4you is very straight-dealing - hence his excellent reputation. He made no apologies for his rate of commission, outlining his costs (including how much he'd lose if someone paid by card).

    I agree if someone seems slippery, I probably wouldn't want to deal with them.
