Ok, following on from @dindude 's excellent clean thread...tonez....

The greatest single tone you've heard on a record?

This is obviously a YMMV thread as tonez are different for different people.

My nomination - Stevie Ray here (1.40 on for solo) and I'm told it was a Strat into a cranked brown Vibroverb.

If I could ape one tone it would be this:

*An Official Foo-Approved guitarist since Sept 2023.

Honestly, it would have to be this. Yes it's live but I think it qualifies as Weld is one of his most popular albums. Such a visceral tone. Try getting that with your Helix's, motherfuckers!

The first riff of this for me. Not the best though necessarily, just my favourite:

Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

Other notable ones for me would be:

Trademark - Eric Johnson (solo tone not the clean sound).
Until the end of the world - U2
    Time - Gilmour
Don't let me be misunderstood - Robben Ford
    Kid Chalamange - Larry Carlton

I love Angus' tone in Ride On, it's very Pete Green. Beyond that, shit loads, would have to let the let the effects of the Malbec diminish diminish... ho ho

Panama - Van Halen ..... a great example of valve amp dirt where you can hear every note in the more complex chord voicing he uses on this song and the tone on the stripped  down middle section is sublime

Ooh, some have been mentioned but the ones that come to mind are Robben Ford's tone on the Talk to your Daughter album and on the title track of the same name (opening bit and solo) and 'Help the poor'

    - solo at 2'08"

Dann Huff's tone on the the Giant albums - I couldn't pick a single one

Seems like someone has been hard at work and has removed almost all of Extremes Waiting for the Punchline tracks from YouTube.

Well, Nuno's cranked 90s 63 reissue brown Tolex Vibroverb, with a microphonic valve, into a 4x12 is the best tone ever recorded.
