    @Gassage

    love it.

Right, Breaks 1 & 2 - make me feel all warm and nice.

Breaks 3 and 4 are making me queasy, particularly 4. You might as well wear a pair of polyester bags.

This Thursday, I am taking my Dad (a proper old school gent) to London, and we will be poncing about in Mayfair, Soho, & St James' (and around), debating all these matters and more. No doubt buying something daft, but well cut. A great day will be had. Just got to decide on some good stops for lunch & dinner, and some well timed watering holes.

Jon Varvatos on Conduit St - amazing place. Its his only UK store. Top floor is tailoring, ground floor is casual, but the real gem is the basement floor: has a huge fender custom shop selection, a load of audio gear, and a fully setup stage with backline where you can just get up and play. They also serve beer!

Socks should be nowhere near pants. Trousers - yes. Pants - No.

Buy all black, indentical. No need to pair up.
Completely agree - a very sensible suggestion.

These would make you wince every time you put them on...

Everyone needs a pair of cervelt socks in their life.

Holy shit the price! They're probably lovely, but ultimately they're beige (or maybe, if we're being charitable, Dark Beige) which is completely unacceptable.

Imagine the day you find that hole at the back of the sock

Wolsey are pretty good. Their bamboo socks are really soft and would suit your local climate. Not sure on longevity though.

At that point I can only assume you get your man to pop to the tailors and have them darned, post haste.

Bamboo is probably great, but why are they all such dull colours?

You are probably quite correct on the first point.

Regarding the colours, I would presume that dull sells, more than dandy. Someone like Pantherella have a hell of a lot of variety and therefore do more colours / patterns but I personally don't think they are that great and aren't worth the money.

I tend to buy off the peg trousers in New and Lingwood in Jermyn Street. They have a wide range of socks from dull to tasteless, and many places in between. They're a bit steep for me but they may be worth a look.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

    So very boring tho'.

I have a pair of sailing socks. One red one green. Reminds me who has right of way provided I put them on the correct way round. I have to do the red  Port left thing every time.

But they did get paired up after one of each wore through the heel.

I've bought from here a few times - sensible balance of cost and design

I bought all my socks back when the pound was two to one against the dollar.  Grey crew Hanes socks, must have about some 100 pairs.  They are socks.  I'm not ocd I'm practical but then I don't get my head, masculinity and mental health messed up by working in an office or sitting in traffic all day.

I have two sets; black or grey baby alpacca, machine knit, for work, and lots of more colourful hand-knitted ones for not-work.
