  • Unfortunately it seems he hung himself, one thing to take from this is that no matter how bleak things can seem, just reach out, someone somewhere cares and will help you, nothing is so bad that it can't be helped by talking.

    Rip Chris.

    We WILL miss you.
You're right in everything you say here. Such a waste, such a loss . Can't believe it was suicide :(

I can't even begin to understand this, but what a terribly sad thing to happen.

    Last song ever:

He sounds awful in that... and the way he moves around in that whole song, it doesn't look right.

I've seen the BBC report that the US officials are calling it as death by suicide (hanging), but something doesn't add up when you watch those videos and see him in that state. At the beginning of that song when he goes to the mic stand he looks like he struggles to get the mic back on the stand and he kind of almost falls over himself... or is that just me?

I'd say he looked and moved like he did every time I've seen him to be honest. I tell you what though, his voice still sounded great.

The human mind is a powerful thing and can take you to very dark places if you let it. Some people just need a helping hand to point their thoughts in the right direction. Such a tragic loss to the world.

Wow. Just amazed. Gutted. Great singer

I got into Soundgarden about 1993. Saw them in Manchester in 1994 on the Superunknown tour. Pretty much listened to him a lot since then across his various projects.

A pretty good guitar player too. A lot of his acoustic work has this low riff around G / F# he plays. Always liked that.

So sad, my uncle went the same way. Hope he's at peace now x

  • Can't see anything wrong with him during that performance

Looking for something that isn't there

  • His last tweet  before the gig hashtagged #nomorebullshit. Turns out this is a song  by camper van beethoven. The lyrics are:

No more bullshit, no more mtv, no more rock starts, no more bullshit
Elvis presley died and no-one knows why

    Omg :o

What does it mean when your idols kill themselves?
Nothing.  Except perhaps that being a massively successful musician doesn't mean you are mentally able to deal with or make you immune from being human.

You don't think being attracted to music written by them means anything?

52 in rock-star years is about 102 in human years though... he probably lived a lot more than many of us will. Even if we outlast him he'll have Outshined us.

He lived like a murder, but died just like a suicide.

One of the most impressive voices in rock - phenomenal, and always instantly recognisable. Leaves 3 kids and a wife - truly so sad.

Wow. A suicide note of sorts. Or a cry for help. But no one spotted it..
    The tweet also says:
"#Detroit finally back to Rock City! "
The end of Detroit Rock City by Kiss goes:
    " Twelve o'clock, I gotta rock
There's a truck ahead, lights starin' at my eyes
Oh my God, no time to turn
I got to laugh 'cause I know I'm gonna die
    Why"

Maybe he'd been planning it for a while & decided on the place to do it?

That whatever your status in life, even iconic, we're all human, which makes us vulnerable and susceptible to the same things.

Whilst performers, artists etc use their platform as an outlet, it can also be to mask what's really going in their lives.

Mental health is a massive issue and we've just set up an awareness and support system at my work as we've had 4 people take their lives in the last 12 years and God knows how many other people are suffering with issues. See and ask what's in your own work place and is it enough?

As has been said here, if you're suffering or you think someone is acting out of character or seems anxious etc, reach out, particularly men who've think it's a taboo issue. Even as strangers to each other here, help has been extended to those that have suffered or suffer and take the gear talk away and you'll see that this forum has been one mighty fine place for such things and causes.

Anyone suffering, try to be kind to yourself and reach out, talk to someone and seek professional help.

    Have a good day everyone

Or, like most of us, he associated the words "Detroit" and "Rock City" and never knew - or never gave much thought to - the song's lyrics.  Please don't read too much into this.

Yes. Quite possibly. In any case, it's not important. Just a sad loss of life. And very sad that he leaves three children who will be tainted by this for ever.
