The most confusing storyline in a film or TV show you've seen?

I really liked the low budget time travel film PRIMER (as in REALLY low budget - around $8000!!!)

It was fascinating, but the story gets incomprehensible by the end. I don't think there's any way you can understand what happened without going online and reading the (fairly complicated) synopsis.

Any other baffling storylines?

    Donny Darko!
Didn't have a clue what was going on but still loved it somehow.
Always be yourself! Unless you can be Batman, in which case always be Batman.
My boss told me "dress for the job you want, not the job you have"... now I'm sat in a disciplinary meeting dressed as Batman.

  • Donnie Darko was more than slightly odd.

Memento makes more sense if you watch it backwards!

As a younger more carefree man, I watched The Big Lebowski with a friend who had a particular knack with baking space cake.

At at some point in the middle of the film she accidentally switched the channel to a documentary about Cacao farming in Venezuela......

took us fully 45mins to realise.

A Japanese horror comedy by Takashi Miike. It's delightfully insane

Ive watched it since and personally felt the film suffers for not including the subplot of falling coco bean prices vs government intervention on wages.

Blow Up. Has a slightly confusing plot to say the least - still good though.

The same except for the post-watch Google. It all made sense after that.

In Dangerous Company ...a dog's breakfast of a movie that no-one will remember.

I used to manage a video library (remember them?) and we'd have films on in the background all day long. In Dangerous Company used to get put on quite a bit because it features Tracy Scoggins - who, in 1988, was quite the visual delight.

Anyway, running in the background, most films made little sense - but In Dangerous Company was particularly perplexing, so I took it home to watch it in full.

Now, please remember that this film had been rented-out hundreds of times and not one single person complained about it...

Upon watching In Dangerous Company, I discovered why it didn't make much sense in fits and starts in the shop; it was because it didn't make any sense whatsoever ...and not just for the usual reasons of a bad story and a bad script that's badly directed and acted even worse. No, In Dangerous Company made absolutely no sense because the genius who transferred it from film to video took the four portions the movie had been divided into for transfer - and arranged them; 1, 3, 2, 4. People who died and whose plot lines were resolved forty-five minutes into the film, were suddenly alive again and trying to figure-out puzzles that had CLEARLY been solved an hour previously.

Still, there's a scene where Tracy steps out of the shower, so all was forgiven...
Not much of the gear, even less idea.

I wonder at what point the Fast & Furious franchise will have to swap over to Slow & Grumpy
