There's no mystery about Apple anymore, plus I've moved to Windows after God knows how many years

I still use Logic Pro X - it's what I'm used to. I like it.

  • I wonder if they'll *finally* update the imacs. I so desperately wanted one but they were so expensive for relatively old architecture, they're surely due the upgrade?

WWDC is usually a software oriented thing, rather than hardware related.
This year could be different though.

    Metal 2 looks great.

Hmmm I could consider going iMac now.
I was going to wait for the new Mac Pro next year but not sure I need to wait now.

Half an eye on this, I'm thinking of getting a laptop later in the year and fancy logic.  For me, Apple need to upgrade the specs of the lower priced models to make them more competitive.  At present you have to spec them all up too much for music applications.  They are a premium brand with great products but they are too far away at the moment.  £1200 including logic basically buys you a modest spec several year old machine.   Doubling the RAM and storage would be a start, as would upgrading the processors to the latest gen.

If they upgrade the air's but keep the price the same, I may be interested.

  • Price will be everything. If the base model represents a solid deal for the money they'll fly off the shelves.

Sadly the update was too late for me and I'm dead happy with my alienware and Adobe rgb Dell 2k screen, but it's reassuring to know they'll not let the imac line die as I'd have rather gone for that. Sounds like it uses latest architecture and all screens are wide colour gamut, although the old ones were very fussy with colour calibration. Hopefully they are all have ssd and spinning disk as standard, rather than the hybrid drives (128gb m.2 Pci-e ssd's are cheap enough for imacs I'd have thought).

    Agree.

I'll probably go the way of Hackintosh in the future.  Budget Macs now seem really underpowered in terms of specs for making music and the higher end ones are way out of my financial reach.
