I like a bit of Biffy, or Gaslight Anthem.
There's also something to be said for chilled out music, the feeling of all your muscles straining whilst you work out but everything seeming simple and calm in your music is a cool&eerie effect
Always be yourself! Unless you can be Batman, in which case always be Batman.
My boss told me "dress for the job you want, not the job you have"... now I'm sat in a disciplinary meeting dressed as Batman.

Hard rock and metal for me: Steel Panther, Lamb of God, Godsmack, Alter Bridge etc.

Interesting! Any examples of the sort of chilled music you mean?

  • Clutch when lifting- gets me going.
QOTSA/Tool/NIN for running- rhythm, rhythm, rhythm.
Motown/soul for grappling- counterintuitively you need to stay calm & not tense up. Chilled music helps.

I like a bit of Zero 7 personally. I wouldn't advice it for cardio where you're trying to keep up a pace and rhythm, but sometimes I like the serenity when lifting weights

I normally listen to audioboooks or podcasts

  • I struggle to listen to 'songs' in the gym - distracting and I don't want to associate the songs I like with the gym - so I'd go with instrumental music - whether that be dj mixes or largely instrumental albums

Also shout to @duotone podcasts (I'd recommend the Bugle for a laugh) and audiobooks are good.
