anyone who has tried both the Mooer and AMT preamp pedals - which did you try and which did you think sounds better?

I've not tried the Mooer stuff but IMO you can't go wrong with AMT preamps.
I've used the F1 for years as my core sound. It's based on a Twin, it sounds great, it's solid and it's got quite a few handy features. Excellent value too.
I've tried a few other of their preamps and they've all been good.

What do you plug it into?  DI, front of amp, or FX return?

I'm a big fan of the AMT preamps - like @Sassafras I use the F1 as the core of my board, but I've also had the Soldano, Cornford and Mesa variants; all were absolutely excellent.

I haven't used the Mooer ones, but from what I've heard on YouTube the core preamp sound isn't as good (or flexible) as that in the AMT pedals...however, the advantage the Mooers have is in the cab emulation, which is miles better than the analogue emulation in the AMT preamps.

Conclusion: If you need a cab sim, Mooer is the way forward. Otherwise, AMT.

    Any of the above.
    It's a very versatile preamp.

I've used the SS11-a and its excellent. I've used both the DI into the desk and also through a Two Notes CAB live, both giving great results. Its a valve preamp with 3 channels and am only selling it due to buying a Helix. Were it not for that, I'd be keeping it.

Not tried the Mooer stuff so can't comment on that aspect of the question.

Another vote for AMT. had the ss11a and still have the R1. Best in to a fx return or recorded from the direct out with IRs. The cab modelling is ok but not great imo

the Moore's are digital AFAIK not that that's a bad thing :)

@John_A Glad you popped into this thread.  I saw that @AMT_Electronics posted a thread saying that AMT were shutting down their UK operations.  I still see the AMT website is up and running and they are selling pedals via eBay UK.

What are the AMT preamp pedals like in front of an amp?

Hi there.  First off, I have no official affiliation with AMT, just used a lot of there products.  I found in front of an amp is not the best way to use AMT preamps, they are much happier in to an FX return, and cab (I used to use a Jet City JCA22h and a cab). The same applies to all other preamp pedals too though, certainly the ones I've used, sansamp, flyrig, JMP1 etc, putting a preamp in to a preamp isn't ideal.  There are plenty 'amp in a box' type pedals that cover you for this.  The AMT stuff does sound excellent though, and while I haven't compared it with Mooer, I definitely prefer it to Tech21 stuff, that's just my opinion though :). I'm a big AMT fan so probably a bit biased.

Sorry mate, I saw your signature with the discount code and thought that you were.

Well, after considering your post and the way that I want to use the pedal, I ordered the S-Drive.  It was quite a bit cheaper on eBay than their website.  I'm guessing it will basically sound the same as the "S" series pre-amps.   I haven't had a Soldano type overdrive before so I'm looking forward to getting it.

I also prefer AMT to Sansamp stuff and I used to love Tech 21 gear.

No worries @bingefeller not sure if the code would still work, I better check and update my signature.  Love all their stuff, I've owned the R pedals, the stonehead, SS11a, and the Pangaea and they were all brilliant, the new Pangaea with effects looks the business too, but I'm going down a different path now.  Such a shame the UK operation is closing, a great company with great products.  Will be interested to hear how you like the S-Drive, I've never used one

I bought a Tech 21 Flyrig 5 a number of years ago and the background noise was terrible.  I wouldn't buy Tech 21 again.

I'll let you know what I think.  Hopefully it'll work out OK for me......I only have a Roland Cube 10 so it's hard to dial in pedals sometimes.
