The cable itself is covered in rayon braiding, which has no effect whatsoever on electron flow. The plug is transparent, but has no effect on the transparency of the signal, and the amp end is white because that's more interesting.
Have you thought about getting Russ Andrews to sell them for you?

I did, but given that it cost me about £8 in parts (that fancy cable isn't cheap!) I'm not sure many people could afford his asking price.

You ought to put a goop filled box around the middle of it for effect!

When I built my amp I spent ages deciding what to use for the mains cable. After much debate I went for a red and white braid because it was redder. Was going to use a gold plug but decided it was a bit Liberace so used a really nice black rubberised one instead. As you were.

I'd feel duty-bound to embed something in the goop.

I might see if he wants my gold plug - he could then sell that for £90.

I had to chop the little lug out of the kettle's socket, but now my coffee is tastier than ever, and the caffeine maintains its claw-like grip on my chest for an extra hour.
