Fender Jim root strat in white

You won't look cool playing da blooze on those guitars so mass appeal is pretty much zero.  I wish I had kept my Billy Corgan strat though, that was a fun guitar.

I think some of the signature endorsements have limited contracts attached so if they're not renewed then they can't keep making guitars with the name on it.

Hmmm... I wonder what one of those is?
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

You sir, are a connoisseur. I'm drawn to stuff you can't get any more too. It'd be hard to source them unless you find good used examples (maybe the Corgan could be done with parts). It's like that gag in Spinal Tap about unpopular stuff being rebadged as having a more "selective" appeal.

The Jim Root, Billy Corgan and Tom Delonge strats are the only ones I've ever properly GAS'ed for. Hardtail strats are just better. I've always wanted a Delonge one.

I've always fancied a Corgan strat.

Just keep a look out on Ebay etc. None of these are impossibly rare - the Tom Delonge is actually reasonably common. Unfortunately it wouldn't be easy to use as the basis for a different hardtail project since there's no standard pickup/control rout.

Aside from the active pickups and control circuitry, how great is the difference between a Fender MIM Jim Root signature Stratocaster and a hardtail Charvel MIM San Dimas?

A forum thread is possibly not the ideal environment for one of these!

their window of availability is always way to narrow. Is not like buying a set of first day cover stamps! You have to budget and plan your fiances for sometimes an item that is more expensive than a second hand car for Chris's sake...

My white Corgan Strat is a thing of beauty and now the only official Fender made Stratocaster I still own.

Hypothetical - rather than rhetorical - question.

Considering that the "signature" pickups of Corgan and Root can still be purchased, how close is it possible to get to the specifications of the signature guitars by simply customising a stock hardtail Stratocaster that happens to already have suitable pickup cavities?
