Big final interview tomorrow... Can't sleep tonight :(

What's Hot
Potential 400% pay rise, going back to IT contracting and I've got to be bright as a button for 10:30.

Why won't my brain shut off? Grrr!

  • Ten years ago, I gave up the corporate stuff and took a 75% pay cut to work with kids full time.

This isn't a job I applied for but one I was approached about because it's a very specialised IT training role which very few people are suitable for. It's a huge amount of money compared to what I do (and love doing).

So really it's a decision on whether I want to make a commitment to going back to that world for anything up to 2 years (it's a contract) and top off my bank balance (Which needs all the help it can get) or stick to my principles.

    Hence, I've had no sleep!

It is a far easier justification doing it for 2 years than signing up for a permie job that in theory is life. If your principles are to look after your family, 2 years doing a job that means you can then step back for another 5 years is easy to justify.

Just be disciplined and make sure you set a date to walk out the door, stick to that and you'll be fine.

    And good luck for 10:30

  • I'd lick toilets clean 14 hours a day for a 400% payrise, if I'm honest.

Two years really isn't long, whilst a 400% payrise is big(!), What will the money do for you? Are you planning to invest it in property? Pay off a mortgage? Help the kids to Uni?

If those objectives aren't worth giving up working with kids and climbing all the time, then don't sweat it!
On the other hand, this could pay for a holiday or 3 to font, or Yosemite etc. ;)

Fingers crossed for you in 20 mins mate! Even though I don't know you, if you have more money, you can buy more gear....and then sell it on the Classifieds, thus keeping The Fretboard micro economy turning! (Win-Win!) You might say my best wishes are purely based on capitalism. Good luck all the same! :)

Good luck @Legionreturns - do the interview as if you've already made the decision to take it, then decide afterwards :-)
Always be yourself! Unless you can be Batman, in which case always be Batman.
My boss told me "dress for the job you want, not the job you have"... now I'm sat in a disciplinary meeting dressed as Batman.
