How do you 'ignore' the posts of an individual?

Apologies if this post is in the wrong section but as per title, how do I 'ignore' the posts of a member here?  Of course I can simply ignore them by not opening them but I would like to not see his posts at all.

Click on their user name, click ignore on the top right of the screen.

The downside of the Ignore List is that, whilst it removes the original text content of the ignoree, the ignorer will still be able to see that text content if anyone else quotes it.

I thought putting someone on ignore resulted in them turning into a blank space in the universe?

I just use manual ignore mode and don't read posts I don't want to, and don't open controversial threads beyond about page 10, because invariably everyone is so off topic that any well balanced post is probably a waste of time at that stage.

Well, for the first time ever I put someone on Ignore the other day.
Yes, I can see their content in Discussions they've started, yes I get notifications if they post in anything I'm following, yes you can see what they've put if quoted and yes I can also see a 'ghost' post by them so I know they've posted but just not what the content is. Overall probably more frustrating than doing the grown up thing of pretending you can't see what they've written and hoping they go away. 
Having taken this passive aggressive stance regarding someone I'm reluctant to undo it but I don't think I'll bother with it much in future.
